USA Hockey, Inc. is the national governing body for the sport of hockey in the United States. As such, its mission is to promote the growth of hockey in America and to provide the best possible experience for all participants by encouraging, developing, advancing and administering the sport.
Minnesota Hockey is the statewide governing body of hockey in Minnesota. Since 1947, Minnesota Hockey (formerly known as the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association) has been providing volunteer services for the development and promotion of all youth hockey in Minnesota.
The league originally formed as the Can-Am Junior Hockey League in 1972, changing its name to the Midwest Junior Hockey League in 1973, then merging with the United States Hockey League in 1977. The circuit finally became entirely junior in 1979. The USHL, governed by USA Hockey, is the only Tier I junior league in America.
